Habeas Corpus

Filed under: Politics — Jared @ 11:04 am

So, since they’re doing away with Habeas Corpus, can’t they give us all the benefits of a no-rights police state? That’s where we’re headed anyway. Where’s my state RFID enabled ID badge that does away with hard currency? Why not just enact full-on racial profiling? Where’s my promised job security, presuming I narc out one of my friends? Why aren’t members of the press that get out of line being imprisoned? I mean, come on; if you’re going to do it, do it right already!

  1. Patience, my son. They can’t do it all at once, or nobody would stand for it. A little bit at a time… Orwell was right, he just got the date wrong.

  2. Nah, although I do fear a bleak future such as Orwell’s, I don’t believe the current governments of the world (ours included) would lower their own standards of living enough to implement a system such as that of 1984. And although I understand the unwashed masses would not accept a quick transition, I’m sick of waiting. If they’re going to take away my freedoms, at least give me the benefits (few that they are) of trading them in.

  3. I just don’t think we’ll get to that point without getting involved in another war or two first. Fear is the key to getting the people to willingly give up their rights. Make the people affraid of infiltraitors and terrorists, that’s the way to go.
