Thought Question

Who exactly are those of us who are socially liberal, but fiscially conservative (semi-conservative really, but probably not in the traditional sense anyway) supposed to vote for?

  1. Theoretically, Libertarian. Realistically, they’d fuck things up even worse than Bush.

  2. Oh, no, not libertarian. Besides the fact that they’d screw up our country way worse than anyone has ever managed to, I didn’t mean financially conservative in the “Drop pants and bend over for big buisness” sense; I meant it in the literal, spend less and spend it smarter sense. I suppose the programs I’d be more inclined to spend it on tend towards the liberal/social, such as education, and I’d probably end up cutting our military budget by ~80%. Intelligence budget too; foreign intelligence would get a decent boost, but the NSA would just be straight disbanded.

Oh well. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that people who think like I do don’t run for office, because the realize the futility of it and the inevitable corruption the system will reign upon them. How does one campaign to get true finance reform in there without taking the dirty money to get into office?

  3. Libertarians are fiscally conservative in the sense that you mean also – small government, low (or no) taxes balanced out by low spending. Maybe a bit more so than you’d like (i.e. they wouldn’t spend on social programs either) but they’re still in the right ballpark on that issue.

As for the futility, inevitable corruption, etc: yeah, that’s why I’ve given up on caring about politics. It’s a hopeless, hopeless situation (and by “it” I mean any sort of political situation involving human beings)

  4. Yeah, you’re right about me thinking they pull the purse strings a little too tight, but they also advocate an even free-er free market then we have now; I’m all about heavy corporate regulation, since companies don’t know how to play well with their customers and other companies.

Under my regime, the NTP vs RIM thing would have been over before it started; I would have pointed out that NTP isn’t actually a company (i.e. they make nothing), slapped them all, taken their money, made their patents public domain and royalty free, and sent RIM on it’s merry way.

The world would be a better place if just they’d make me Dictator for Life ^_^

  5. Although I hope everyday for a better world I don’t think that you are the right person to bring it about. On the other hand I am the perfect candidate for the job, I nominate myself. I accept!
~Please stay calm during this transition of regime change.

    Thank you 😦
